Topic 25:  मुझको दीजिए Give it to me (irregular command forms)

Context: Baljit talks with Jaspreet about Salim, Mark and Tara.

बातचीत

बलजीत - जसप्रीत, उनको पानी दो।

जसप्रीत - ठीक, और तुम खाना जल्दी तैयार करो।

(जसप्रीत मेज़ के पास जाती है।)

जसप्रीत - यह पानी लीजिए।

तारा - धन्यवाद, सलीम साहब आप भी पानी पीजिए।

सलीम - शुक्रिया, मुझे मेन्यु भी दीजिए।

तारा - ठीक, लीजिए। मार्क, तुम भी पानी पियो।

Conversation

Baljeet - Jaspreet, give them water.

Jaspreet - Okay, and you prepare the food quickly.

Jaspreet - Please take this water.

Tara - Thankyou, Mr Salim please also drink water.

Salim - Thankyou, please give me a menu also.

Tara - Okay, please take. Mark, you also drink water.

Notes

As in many languages there are going to be irregular forms as well. Irregular forms only occur with really common verbs, and there are four main irregular common verbs you need to memorise which all follow a similar pattern.

Spelling command forms
You should also have noticed by now that in Hindi script how you spell these forms follows two patterns in the तुम  and आप  levels of address.

There are also other small irregularities in how some verbs take their command forms. Verb stems which end in a long shorten this before an ending, for instance:
